VNUHCM Secures Two International Patents in the US
As of December 2022, VNUHCM has been granted two patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office in the fields of materials technology and environmental technology. VNUHCM is proceeding with the submission of international patent applications designated for the US, with four applications being reviewed. It is anticipated that in 2023, VNUHCM will obtain an additional three international patents. two typical inventions of VNUHCM granted US patents in 2022 are “New metal-organic framework” and “Submerged Tubular Membrane Distillation (STMD) Method and Apparatus for desalination to create fresh water from seawater, salt water, brackish water”.
The patent for “New Metal-Organic Frameworks” was developed by the author team of Nguyen Thi Kieu Phuong, Tran Bach Nhu Y, Luong Thien Quang, and Phan Bach Thang. This invention addresses the issue of new metal-organic framework materials that help absorb CO2 and catalyze the formation of cyclic carbonates, which are used as solvents and sustainable substitutes for harmful reactions currently employed in the chemical industry. The application of this invention will significantly reduce the adverse impacts on human health and the natural environment.
Patent of “New metal-organic frameworks” is owned by Vietnam National University HCM.
The patent “Submerged Tubular Membrane Distillation (STMD) Method and Apparatus to Desalinate and Produce Freshwater from seawater, saltwater, and brackish water” was created by the team of authors Bui Xuan Thanh, Nguyen Cong Nguyen, and Ngo Thi Tra My. This invention discusses a process and device for converting saline water into freshwater, bringing significant benefits to the daily lives of people in coastal areas, islands, and regions affected by saltwater intrusion.”
Patent of “Submerged Tubular Membrane Distillation (STMD) Method and Apparatus to Desalinate and Produce Freshwater from seawater, saltwater, and brackish water”.
The granting of patents by the United States to VNUHCM reflects the outstanding level of scientific and technical research, and technology at VNUHCM, as the United States has the highest and most stringent requirements for patent application submissions. This achievement enhances VNUHCM’s opportunities and advantages in cooperating with various countries and large corporations in the world.
