On August 5, 2024, VNUHCM held the inaugural meeting of its Science and Training Council for the 2023-2026 term at the Administration House. Chaired by Prof. Dr. Tran Linh Thuoc, the meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Vice President of VNUHCM, representing the university’s leadership.

The council focused on three key areas:

– Review and Amendment of Science and Technology Regulations: Council members proposed aligning VNUHCM’s Type C topics with ministerial-level standards and recognition by the State Council of Professors. They emphasized the importance of a strategic, resource-based approach to topic selection, rather than individual faculty proposals. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam underscored the significance of strategic planning in topic selection, stating, “VNUHCM-level topics must be strategically driven, considering factors such as resources and interdisciplinary collaboration.”
– Research Integrity and Ethics: The council recommended consolidating the two sets of regulations into a single document and incorporating a training component.
– Land Economics Pilot Program: The council approved the launch of a pilot Land Economics program at the university level.
In closing, Prof. Dr. Tran Linh Thuoc urged the drafting committee to incorporate council feedback into the revised science and technology regulations before wider consultation.
