Outstanding results in science, technology and innovation of VNUHCM

Implementing the strategic plan of VNUHCM for the period of 2021-2025, science, technology and innovation activities have achieved outstanding achievements in international publication, application products, university rankings, etc.

As of December 2022, VNUHCM published 1,913 articles in the Scopus Database, of which many continue to be published in prestigious journals such as Nature, Science, Advanced Functional Materials, The Lancet Neurology. According to the Scopus database, in the period of 2017-2022, VNUHCM published 7,837 articles.

According to the ranking results of QS Education, VNUHCM is in the top 801-1,000 in the world, ranked 167th in Asia and 37th in Southeast Asia. In the 2022 ranking of Times Higher Education Magazine, VNUHCM continues to be in the top 401+ universities operating under 50 years, considered the best in the world. This is the 3rd consecutive year that VNUHCM has made the presence in this world university ranking table.

In 2022, VNUHCM’s units endeavoured to implement applied research products and implemented 636 scientific and technological service contracts with a total revenue of 154.1 billion VND. Scientists of VNUHCM have filed 35 intellectual property applications and been granted 02 US patents.

Many major cooperation activities and seminars were carried out in 2022 such as: VNUHCM with the Ministry of Science and Technology and People’s Committee of HCM City signed a Program to coordinate activities in the period of 2022-2025 to strengthen cooperation in directing and operating science and technology activities in HCM City; Workshop “Sustainable development of the real estate market in the new context” organized by the Central Economic Commission in collaboration with VNUHCM; Workshop “Supporting policies supporting enterprises to seek, transfer and innovate technology” organized by VNUHCM in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Workshop “Science and Technology Development for the cause of industrialization and modernization in the context of socialist-oriented market economy and international integration” organized by the Commission for Information and Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and VNUHCM, etc.

Many scientists of VNUHCM were honored in 2022. Typically, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong received the “Outstanding Female Scientist 2022” award from the L’Oreal – UNESCO program; Prof. Dr. Vo Van Toi was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Medical and Biomedical Engineering Association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Phung and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Thanh were awarded the Best Innovation Award 2022 by the Hitachi Global Fund; Prof. Dr. Tran Doan Son was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize in Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was awarded the Kovalevskaia Award; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Le Thu was awarded the Ta Quang Buu Award; Dr. Le Thanh Long, Dr. Nguyen Ly Sy Phu, Dr. Tran Thi Nhu Hoa were awarded the Golden Globe Award, etc.

VNUHCM students in the past year also won many awards at international academic competitions such as: First prize in the Maker to Entrepreneur (MEP) 2022 program; 2 top prizes in the “Technical Innovation eProjects” contest; Global Satellite Tracking Initiative; First place in the IEEExtreme programming contest; Winner of the Robot Programming contest held in Singapore and many high prizes at the National Biology Olympiad.
